SUMMARY:Bonny Light Horseman
DESCRIPTION:Bonny Light Horseman is ready to embrace life’s wonderful\, abundant chaos. Confident and generous\, their lead single “When I Was Younger” kicks off the band’s most vulnerable and bounteous era to date. \nOver the years\, Bonny Light Horseman has accumulated many miles on the collective odometer of life. The band’s core trio – Anaïs Mitchell\, Eric D. Johnson\, and Josh Kaufman – has amassed an incomparable collected resume. Mitchell is a celebrated solo artist as well as the playwright and songwriter behind the hit Broadway musical Hadestown\, which notched eight Tony Awards and a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Johnson is best known as the mind behind beloved indie mainstays Fruit Bats\, as a longtime collaborator with The Shins\, and as a film score composer. And Kaufman is a multi-hyphenate extraordinaire: songwriter\, producer\, and position player\, having recorded and performed with artists ranging from Bob Weir to The War on Drugs to Taylor Swift\, Hiss Golden Messenger and The Hold Steady. As a group\, Bonny Light Horseman’s debut album received a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album\, and the track “Deep in Love” was nominated for Best American Roots Performance. \nMore important than any of this\, though\, they’ve also lived a big ol’ messy and tangled up pile of life\, and all that living permeates their music with the wisdom\, humor\, and depth that underlies the accolades. Theirs is the stuff that defines folk music as a genre: love and loss\, hope and sorrow\, community and family\, change and time. The Big Stuff\, with the stakes sky high. \nAt the center of Bonny Light Horseman is\, always\, the singular combination of three powerful and tender artists\, artists who expertly dodge superlatives but are quick to acknowledge that their bond makes each one better\, braver and more vulnerable than they’d be on their own. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the force of their voices together\, which work with complete trust in one another through the gentlest moments and the most ruthless wails. \n“When I Was Younger” is one such wail\, revolutionary for its open reckoning with motherhood\, maturation\, and all of the things polite society doesn’t say out loud. In the song\, Mitchell and Johnson’s honeyed voices meet and transform into a two-headed beast formed from pent-up emotion; its roar is necessary\, beautiful and scary. Recorded at Levis (pronounced: “leh-viss”) Corner House\, a century-old watering hole in Ballydehob\, County Cork\, “When I Was Younger” also features the sound of the pub’s crowd. Their inclusion – the coughs\, the cars\, chorus of shouts – articulate all that life being lived inside and outside of art. \nAs they round the corner toward a new album\, Bonny Light Horseman arrive with a distinct sense of grace\, and a reminder that life is most lived when things aren’t so perfect.

SUMMARY:Humbird – The Matinee of Music presented by Roaring Fork Sessions & Inspire Aspen
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota indie-folk band Humbird voices begin to collide and overlap\, the sound of human vocals begins to flow into water\, harmonic drones floating overhead. It’s a viscerally visual sound\, an echo of the clear\, unbroken silences of the Minnesota woods that first inspired Humbird songwriter Siri Undlin. The eldest daughter of a trial lawyer and Lutheran preacher\, Undlin witnessed the power of stories from a young age and began writing music and performing at the age of 12. Born and raised in Minneapolis\, she speaks today of a city that’s still surprisingly close to the rivers and forests of the land\, the images of her youth in the Midwest coming back unbidden as she travels the earth. In 2014\, Undlin undertook a year’s travel through Northern Europe as part of a fellowship\, drawing lasting inspiration from Norse mythology\, Sami animism and joiks\, the Welsh countryside\, Paleolithic cave paintings\, old world lutherie\, and frozen Icelandic landscapes. These inspirations\, and inspirations from further travels across five continents\, remain in Undlin’s music today\, though Humbird is much more of a collaborative process\, bringing together the talents of Undlin’s long-time musical partner Dexter Wolfe (from their duo Undlin & Wolfe) with Minneapolis musician Pat Keen (bass/drums) and others. Where Else presents a sound that touches on lodestones as diverse a Bon Iver\, Bill Frisell\, and Joni Mitchell\, a sound meant to reflect a global North\, a sense of place tied to the hyperborean realms. \nRecommended for 5 years and up. \nThis event is held at Mad Dog Ranch + Studio.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Lindsay Lou
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Lindsay Lou \n“Guided by life experiences\, Lindsay Lou’s sound and songwriting continues to evolve and intertwine her sturdy Bluegrass roots with progressive Americana and Folk.” – PBS “I saw a literal manifestation of the sacred feminine and had this profound sense that I was meant to embody it\,” recalls celebrated singer-songwriter Lindsay Lou after journeying through a hallucinogenic ritual that would inform the way she processed waves of grief in the sea of change ahead of her. The loss of her grandmother\, the end of her marriage\, and the overwhelming turmoil of COVID lockdowns found the Nashville-based artist on a spiritual journey of self-knowledge and healing with this gift from the mystic swirl. \nOn her new album Queen of Time (due September 29th from Kill Rock Stars)\, Lou explores that quest across ten tracks of tender\, heartbreakingly beautiful music. With this new vision of womanhood in mind.

SUMMARY:Roaring Fork Sessions Presents I’m With Her with supporting act Jon Muq - Proceeds supporting the Independence Pass Foundation
DESCRIPTION:With the 2014 formation of I’m With Her\, singer/songwriters Sarah Jarosz\, Aoife O’Donovan\, and Sara Watkins introduced an essential new force into the world of folk music: a close-knit alliance of highly esteemed musicians\, each graced with a deep understanding of folk tradition and unbridled passion for expanding its possibilities. Since delivering their critically lauded debut See You Around and standalone singles like “Call My Name” (winner of the 2020 Grammy for Best American Roots Song)\, the trio have routinely taken time out from their individual careers to dream up songs together—eventually arriving at a new album exploring themes of ancestry\, lineage\, and the collective human experience. On their long- awaited sophomore LP Wild and Clear and Blue\, I’m With Her now bring their luminous harmonies to a soul-searching body of work about reaching into the past\, navigating a chaotic present\, and bravely moving forward into the unknown. In a departure from the stripped-back intimacy of See You Around—a 2018 release that turned up on best-of-the-year lists from the likes of the New York Times—Wild and Clear and Blue centers on a far more elaborate sound informed by the trio’s intensified sense of musical kinship. All multi-Grammy- winners with deep roots in the folk scene\, Watkins\, Jarosz\, and O’Donovan first discovered their near- telepathic chemistry during an impromptu performance at the 2014 Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, then co- founded I’m With Her and began touring extensively and performing at acclaimed festivals across the globe. Produced by Josh Kaufman—a member of Bonny Light Horseman and multi- instrumentalist/songwriter/arranger/producer who’s worked with Bob Weir and The National—Wild and Clear and Blue ultimately adds a bold new urgency to their delicate entangling of lived-in narrative\, fable-like storytelling\, and nuanced reflection on cycles of life. \nI’m with her will be joined by supporting act with supporting act Jon Moq. \nJON MUQ \nFor Jon Muq\, a singer-songwriter born in Uganda and now living in Austin\, Texas\, music is part of a larger conversation he’s having with the world and everybody in it. Drawing from African as well as western musical trends and traditions\, he devises songs as small gifts\, designed to settle into everyday life and provoke reflection and resilience. “These days the world is sad\,” he explains\, “so I wanted to make happy songs. I wanted to write songs that connected with the listener in a very personal way. When someone listens to my music\, it’s not just about me and what I’m singing. It’s about how they understand the songs individually. I think these songs can speak many languages\, depending on what you want from them.” \nMuq’s experiences as a child in Uganda and as a man in America give him a unique perspective on the world he’s addressing. “I grew up in a very different life\, where so many people pass through hard times just because they don’t have much. Our biggest issue was food scarcity. Then I came to a different world\, which gave me a picture of how to write a song that can find balance with everyone wherever they are\, whether they have a lot or not much.” With his May 31st debut album with producer Dan Auerbach and tours with Billy Joel\, Norah Jones\, Mavis Staples\, Amythyst Kiah\, Corinne Bailey Rae\, and others\, Muq is expanding the scope of his music to speak to more and more people. \nI’m With Her’s Find My Way To You VIP Package: I’m With Her is thrilled to offer their exclusive Find My Way To You VIP Package in select cities along the Wild and Clear and Blue 2025 tour. All VIP tickets include admission for one to the evening’s concert. VIP tickets will include early admission to the show\, a stripped-down intimate 15-20 min performance\, followed by a 20 min Q&A. SUMMARY:The Milk Carton Kids - A Benefit Concert for Aspen Public Radio presented by Roaring Fork Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 2011\, The Milk Carton Kids — Joey Ryan and Kenneth Pattengale — swiftly emerged as a major force in the American folk tradition\, blending ethereal harmonies and intricate musicianship with a uniquely powerful brand of contemporary songcraft. Their 2013 debut The Ash & Clay marked their national breakthrough\, earning them their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Folk Album. Another Grammy nomination followed in 2015 for Best American Roots Performance with “The City of Our Lady” from their acclaimed third studio album\, Monterey\, and their 2018 album All The Things That I Did and All The Things That I Didn’t Do received a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album\, Non-Classical. Their most recent album\, 2019’s The Only Ones\, garnered extensive praise\, with Rolling Stone highlighting that “Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan get back to the beautiful basics with The Only Ones\,” while NPR’s “World Café” noted that “even though Joey and Kenneth are not related\, their voices together create a sibling-like harmony…the duo has a strong sense of respect and reverence for the musical traditions that they’ve grown from. \nThe Milk Carton Kids were nominated for “Best Folk Album” for their new record I Only See The Moon at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. This marked the group’s fourth Grammy nomination. \nI Only See The Moon is out now to critical acclaim on Far Cry Records in partnership with Thirty Tigers. \n“Both of us have now lived enough life to understand that maybe one of the purposes we were put on Earth for is to sing together\, to write songs together\, to make music together\,” notes guitarist/vocalist Kenneth Pattengale. “It has truly provided a direction for our lives.” Ryan adds\, “It’s like a successful marriage in that there’s always been enough there between us collaboratively in the way that we work together\, sing together\, play together. It’s a very special thing. And I don’t think we ever took that for granted.”
